Job Function and Purpose:
The main purpose of the role in the Organisation is to provide visible and clear leadership to the Operations Team.
The role will require partnership with internal teams to implement requirements from those internal Departments. The role will ensure strict adherence to Operational, Logistics and Finance processes, engaging with Directors, Client Service, Logistics, Finance and HR to deliver and implement cost effective and achievable shift strategies.
The general focus of the job is to develop and manage Process Adherence through the implementation of relevant SOP’s nationally, the analysis and interpretation of operational performance information, daily, weekly and monthly monitoring of relevant performance metrics, facilities management, insurance and risk management. The successful candidate needs to be a strategic thinker that has an intimate knowledge of the systems and procedures to effect changes that are meaningful to the business and profitability.
Financial Management: Implement financial controls and ensure responsible budget management at all levels.
The candidate needs to have experience in terms of Compliance (Health and Safety and other relevant Laws), managing permanent and temporary staff from a Human Capital point of view including performance management, disciplinary hearings, training and development, capacity and forecasting and recruiting the best Operations Team in the Industry.
The candidate must be a leader that can strategically analyse and implement policies, motivate staff and be solutions orientated including resourcefulness. The person also needs to have experience leading a large diversified team extracting the best out of all team members.
The candidate must be resourceful in engaging, negotiating and contracting with suppliers and stakeholders (internal and external) to achieve operational efficiencies.
The role reports to the CEO of the organisation, and will lead and manage the Operations Team with a staff compliment of 140.
Key Responsibilities:
- Employee Management
- Depot staff Leave management and management of Red Alert Leave
- Oversee and approve overtime and casual labour.
- Presentation and Interpretation of relevant Operational Statistics
- Develop and maintain operational checklist for audits and self-audit monthly.
- Develop, maintain, and oversee stocktakes for depot.
- Compile and present Exception Reports where applicable
- Compile Monthly Operational Executive Summaries
- Management of Space Capacity to ensure optimal utilisation and efficiency
- Supplier Management including landlords and Labour Brokers ensuring financial efficiency
- Implementation of new clients
- Review and interpret Client Events Calendar requirements and translate into actionable, understandable plans – i.e. delivering an end-to-end plan.
- Travel to and auditing of all warehouses nationally
- Implement the business strategic skills development plan in collaboration with HR.
- Ensure immediate and day to day problem resolution
- Project Planning and Milestone Management
- Compile and implement a Preventative Maintenance Plan
- Implementation and adherence to workflow for on-site depot clients
- Ensure all regions have hardware, software, and equipment necessary to run optimally.
- Manage Regional Fleet Operations

Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in a similar senior managerial role
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in Operations in multi-principal warehousing
- BCom degree or relevant tertiary qualification is essential
- Strong operational, commercial, and new business development skills
- Willingness to travel.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English
- Advanced MS Excel skills
